Never Touch that Dirty Hotel Remote Again – Great New App

by Adam

Everyone knows that one of the dirtiest things in the hotel room is the TV remote. The remote is used over and over again by each guest, but rarely ever cleaned. Well, there’s finally a great solution allowing you to use the TV in your room, without every having to touch the remote. LodgeNet interactive (who provides software for 95% of hotel room TVs), has released an app for iOS and Android called STAYConnect, which allows you to control your TV directly from your mobile device. We are talking power on/off, volume control, channel changing, in-room/on-demand movie purchases, room service, and more.

Next time you hit the road, bring along the travel app designed to make your hotel stay even better! With STAYConnect, you can turn your mobile device into a fully-functioning remote control for your hotel TV. STAYConnect works in over 630,000 hotel rooms across the U.S. including many popular brands such as Hilton, Embassy Suites, Doubletree, Hampton Inn, Homewood Suites, Sheraton, W Hotels, Westin, Marriott, Ritz-Carlton, Courtyard, Fairmont, Omni, InterContinental, Crowne Plaza, Holiday Inn, Joie de Vivre, Kimpton, Loews, and many more.

– Control in-room TV channels, volume, power
– View in-room movie listings and stream trailers
– Order in-room movies and other on-demand entertainment
– Find information about your hotel
– Request housekeeping and room service

All you have to do is pair your mobile device with your in-room TV using a code found on your TV’s main menu. It works for the duration of your stay, meaning you won’t have to touch the remote control again!

Check out the iOS app here and the Android app here.

It does not work on Hyatt 🙁 You still have to touch the dirty remote to pait the TV with your phone. Well, it is better than having to touch it multiple times. Other less techie options that work as well: squeeze a bottle of alcohol gel on top of the remote or put the remote inside a ziploc bag 🙂

Why do hotel remotes, including this app which I have been using for a couple years now not have sleep timers. At home I always set the sleep timer,in hotels which is on average 100 nights a year the tv wakes me up because it remains in. In some hotels you can still get to the old menus from the tv it self.

I think this app was originally called lodge net ,one day the app changed its name and I had no idea it happened.

I use a wet wipe on every hotel remote. First thing I do when checking in.

Considering the pairing instructions in the app require you hit MENU, how do you do this without “ever touching the remote?”

I assume this only works with Lodgenet properties?

Good news you can use your phone to control the TV, Bad news is it’s Lodgenet and you can’t adjust the tint levels so all the grass is blue and everyone is bright red 🙂
