Here’s the CVS Memo to Employees – Vanilla Reload Purchases Today

by Adam

Well, I truly hope that this is a regional thing, but here’s a copy of the CVS memo to store managers informing them that stores will no longer accept credit cards for Vanilla Reloads and MyVanilla cards. The effective date is 3/31. I just visited a CVS store on Long Island and had no problem buying multiple VR cards. Let’s see what happens tomorrow though. The memo is from a Florida store, but supposedly stores in NJ are have received the same. The letter indicates that registers will be hard coded to reject non cash payments.  I’m hoping this might take time to spread to all regions and that it is not company wide but if not, I’m certainly happy I started on the required 10K on the AAThe Citi Executive AAdvantage World MasterCard early.

Tragic news – I might have to fill my free time with something else like reading a book or playing a musical instrument

Just bought another $10K today just in case- and I asked my favorite cashier (who knows to use a hand held bar code scanner because it is SO much faster) if he had heard anything about the change and he said there was no discussion or memo that he was aware of.

I also thought there might be a run on VR’s because of the posts on the blogosphere but he said there have been only a few purchases. There were still over 100 cards on the rack.

So I am hoping it is a regional thing. I am in So Cal.

Just got my AA exec card and nothing to use it on. Looks like I just bought an AAdvantage Club membership.

Based on the Rob move, even though I wasn’t denied, I decided for no reason, to ask a friendly cashier if he heard about the new rule. He quickly called over his manager who then out of concern, contacted the general manager for the stores in our area. The general manager made further calls and next thing you know I couldn’t buy my VR anymore :(….at least that’s how I suspect it would have gone…
