SPG’s Swan & Dolphin Disney Hotels – Major Redesigns in Progress

by Adam

The Walt Disney World Swan & Dolphin hotels are managed by Starwood as Westin & Sheraton properties.  The hotels are great in that you get all the perks of staying at a Disney Resort, including the extra hours benefit and Disney transportation, but you earn SPG points as well (you can redeem them there too – both are category 4 resorts at 10K points per night)! There’s even a boat directly from the hotel to Epcot or Hollywood Studios.

Well, exciting news that I’ve been meaning to post since October, Starwood and Disney announced a $125 million redesign project that is well underway to transform all of the 2,267 rooms. From the PR:

“As we celebrate the hotel’s 25th anniversary, it is appropriate that we mark the occasion with a renaissance of our room product,” General Manager Fred Sawyers said in a press release. The hotel’s public spaces, restaurants, meeting rooms, shops, pools and recreational areas will not be impacted and will remain fully operational throughout the renovation. Interior design and architecture firm Garcia Stromberg/GS4 Studios, designers of the Conrad Hotel Ft. Lauderdale, the Waldorf Astoria’s Boca Beach Club and One Thousand Ocean condominium in Boca Raton, Fla., created the concept for the new rooms. The guest rooms will get upgraded furniture and all of the latest technology including larger HDTVs. The color scheme will be a combination of whites, blues and grays. There will be new Westin Heavenly Beds, and bathrooms will have back-lit mirrors mounted on iridescent glass tiles. The project started in August at the Swan Hotel, where about 500 of the 756 rooms will be redesigned by the end of this year. The first phase of the Dolphin Hotel rooms will begin next year with the entire project scheduled for completion by the end of 2016.
