American 787 Dreamliner Acceptance Flight & Checks – Internal Communication

by Adam

Here’s how American shared the news of their first 787 acceptance flight with their employees yesterday:

This afternoon, American flight attendants, engineers and a test pilot arrived at Boeing for a long-awaited look at the first 787, and took her for a customer acceptance flight high above Washington state. Earlier this week, VP of global marketing, Fernand Fernandez, and some of the Onboard Products team got to preview the cabin interior with a focus on the new Business Class seats and other cabin amenities.

Meanwhile, our Aircraft Delivery Team has officially started the aircraft acceptance process which involves very detailed inspections of the aircraft that include not only the new interior but the entire aircraft. Since this is a first-of-its-kind delivery, the inspection process is a bit more involved. Just like a final walk through before you close on a new house, they’ll make requests of Boeing and our interior vendors to put the finishing touches on everything from the new Business Class seats to the overhead bins, lavatories and tray tables. We want this plane to be perfect when it starts revenue flights later this spring.

AA 787s will first be flown between hubs before being placed on international routes some time in Q2 2015.
