United Going 10 Seats Across in Economy & Shrinking Business w/ 777 Retrofit

by Adam

Aviation Week is reporting that United is considering a 777 subclass which would have 364 seats…almost 100 more than it currently has.  The supposed plan is to retrofit currently owned 777s by shrinking the business class cabin and placing 10 seats across (like AA) in economy instead of the current 9. In total, there would be 28 flat-bed seats in business class, 98 in premium economy, and 238 in economy. The new configuration is being called the 77G.

Internally, United is calling the new configuration the 77G. It is not clear how many 777s would be retrofitted, but the source said the aircraft would come from airline’s United subsidiary — rather than Continental — and would be limited to aircraft with lower maximum takeoff weights.

As long as the prices go down I’m perfectly good with them cramming as many seats as they can on a plane.

@Lynn – you might want to think twice about that statement when you are waiting 20minutes in line to go to the bathroom and if you think the prices are going down. Ohh boi, you are in for a surprise.
