Starting this week, passengers on JetBlue transcontinental flights between JFK and LAX and SFO will be able to use Apple Pay on their iPhones to purchase food, drinks, and even seat upgrades. JetBlue will be the first US carrier to accept the payment technology. Additional flights will begin accepting Apple Pay in March and the plan is to have all JetBlue flights equipped for the technology by June. JetBlue says that Google Wallet and other mobile payments may be accepted in the future.
To use Apple Pay, passengers will hold their phone up to a flight attendant’s iPad Mini and verify the purchase using TouchID. A receipt will then be sent via email, though no wifi access is required for the purchase.
