Loved the Reconfigured AA 767-300 Business Class to Europe – HUGE Improvement!

by Adam

I was on an American Airlines reconfigured 767-300 in business class for my flight to Rome earlier this week and I can’t overstate how much of an improvement the experience was over the non refurbished 767s in AA’s fleet. The configuration (and colors) were extremely similar to SWISS (Trip Report – SWISS Business JFK-Zurich(ZRH) A330 – Best Fillet In-Flight?) and I found the seat to be both comfortable and modern. Although it’s similar to Delta One’s (BusinessElite) 1-2-1 staggered configuration, I think I preferred the AA product. Though there is one key difference, NO built in IFE on AA’s 767s, instead you are presented with a Samsung tablet which is loaded with content.

As I discussed previously in this trip report (Worst First Class to Asia? Trip Report – American’s 777-200 to Tokyo) where my IFE failed to work and I was given a tablet instead, I found there to be more content (50+ movies) on the Samsung devices and I loved the flexibility in positioning the screen. There is also a large TV and eBook library.

Granted this was American so my expectations were tempered a bit, but I really did “love” the experience…more so than my first class experience to Tokyo on an old 777-200. Anyway, full trip report coming soon, but check out the video below for details on all of the AA upgrades. Fun fact, according to Flyertalk, the “aircraft are being refurbished for just one reason: the AA/BA/IB/AY transatlantic joint business agreement requires that AA have lie-flat seats for transatlantic routes.”

Currently, 23 767s have the new interior while 33 have the older configuration.  You can check assigned routes and progress here.

Thanks for letting us know this. My wife and I are going to be on that flight in a few months, and I’m grateful to know the new product is worthwhile.
