Country #72! …Just Landed in Iceland!

by Adam

Like so many other countries I’ve visited, I have points and miles to thank for getting me to #72, Iceland! I actually didn’t intend to use miles for this one. Icelandair had a great one day fare sale two months back and I was able to snag a roundtrip fare from JFK to KEF for $350. However, my friend needed to change the dates a day later and so we used the 24 hour cancelation policy…but the fares were back up over $700 (this time for Memorial Day weekend). Delta was charing over $1100 for the same economy ticket. Delta SkyMiles to the rescue (how often do you hear that hah)! I spent 60,000 SkyMiles for a roundtrip coach ticket (Delta Comfort+) for the relatively short flight from New York (just over 5 hours of flying time).

We’ll be staying at the Radisson Blu 1919 Hotel in Reykjavik for part of the trip, partly on points as well.

Any Reykjavik or Iceland recommendations?? I’m totally psyched for my first trip here! Happy Memorial Day to all.

Go to the blue Lagoon, was awesome when I went last winter. Also do a golden triangle tour to see giant waterfall, geysers and more. Walk the streets near Hallgrimskirja, the tallest cathedral in Iceland. There are neat shops and restaurants nearby.
