Uber Location Tracking Went Live on the 15th

by Adam

Uber drivers can now track your location, allowing them to pick you up at a new location even if you have changed spots after “dropping the pin”.  The changes were announced as part of an update to their new privacy policy which went live on July 15th. Uber will now be able to access location data when the app is on as well as contact information (to send promo offers). Both of these features are optional and you can turn them on and off from within the app.

Check out their full privacy update here.

Still haven’t tried Uber? The current sign up offer is a $30 credit for new riders when being referred . Additionally, the person who refers you will receive a free trip up to $30. This is my referral link if you want to use it, as always your support is greatly appreciated!

If the tracking works better than pin-dropping, it’ll be great for those times that the app drops the pin a few blocks from where I actually am.

You said, “Both of these features are optional and you can turn them on and off from within the app.” Where can this be done in the Android app? Am I missing something? Thanks!
