The Safest Airlines in 2016

by Adam

Once again, Qantas is the world’s safest airline according to AirlineRatings.com. The carrier has earned that safety designation every year since the list kicked off in 2013 due to their fatality-free record in the modern jet era. Qantas beat out 407 other airlines that are monitored for safety, though 20 carriers were recognized for “world’s best” in terms of ensuring passenger safety (alphabetically):

Air New Zealand
Alaska Airlines
All Nippon Airways
American Airlines
Cathay Pacific Airways
Emirates
Etihad Airways
EVA Air
Finnair
Hawaiian Airlines
Japan Airlines
KLM
Lufthansa
Scandinavian Airline System
Singapore Airlines
Swiss
United Airlines
Virgin Atlantic
Virgin Australia

Interesting that American, Alaska, Hawaiian, and United made the list, but Delta is missing. Any readers know why?

In terms of low-cost carriers, the list includes:

Aer Lingus
Flybe
HK Express
JetBlue
Jetstar Australia
Thomas Cook
TUI Fly
Virgin America
Volaris
Westjet

AirlineRatings.com says that 10 airlines from Indonesia, Nepal, and Surinam, received only one or zero stars:

Batik Air
Bluewing Airlines
Citilink
Kal-Star Aviation
Lion Air
Sriwijaya Air
TransNusa
Trigana Air Service
Wings Air
Xpress Air
