British Airways flight 56, an A380-800 operating from Johannesburg (JNB) to Heathrow (LHR), was only 90 minutes from landing last Sunday when a cart on the upper deck hit a water pipe causing water to spray all over both cabins.
According to passengers on-board, the water flowed for 15 minutes, causing items on the floor…and many feet to get wet. Flight attendants rushed to soak up the water with blankets. Pilots announced that the situation was not dangerous, but that the electrical system would be switched off.
BA issued the following statement:
A trolley knocked a water pipe and unfortunately it caused a leak on Sunday. Not serious but inconvenient. There was no risk to the aircraft or customers on board. The aircraft landed normally at Heathrow, and we’re sorry for the inconvenience to customers.
Apparently, some passengers were reimbursed for items damaged including iPads that were stored in seat-back pockets.
