Fake Cathay Pilot Gets Caught After Ordering Alcohol On-Board

by Adam

A young man posing as a Cathay Pacific pilot was detained in Malaysia last month after attempting to order an alcoholic beverage during a Dragonair flight from Hong Kong. The crew first became suspicious after he began taking multiple photos during meal service (blogger?), but alarm bells really rang when he ordered a Bloody Mary. The crew presented him with a non-alcoholic version of the cocktail. He told crew members he had just completed duty on a long-haul flight from San Francisco. When he was asked for identification during the flight, he claimed that the documents were in his checked luggage. When he could not produce the documents upon landing, security was called and he was escorted off the plane. The “pilot” was immediately sent back to Hong Kong where airport police were waiting. How’d he make it on the flight? Dragonair released this statement:

“We have stringent security measures in place. Non-operating cockpit crew and unauthorized persons are strictly prohibited from access to the cockpit.”

The aircraft was searched overnight in Malaysia before it was allowed to return to Hong Kong the next day.
