Would You Use A Cruise Ship To Smuggle Cocaine in MuuMuus?

by Eric

We normally don’t think of cruise ships as being an ideal transport mechanism to smuggle cocaine, but authorities said that Lakisha Abney, Shawnta Aiken and Ciera Bryant of Washington DC, and Shenique Milbourne of Fort Washington, MD, were potentially trying to smuggle more than 6 kg of cocaine underneath loose-fitting muumuus “on or about May 8, 2016, and continuing until on or about May 15, 2016.”

According to a criminal complaint from the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Florida, these 4 women are accused of traveling on Royal Caribbean’s Freedom of the Seas. This ship was leaving from Port Canaveral, on its wait to Haiti, Jamaica, Grand Cayman and Mexico.

When the ship returned to Port Canaveral, officials patted down the women and discovered 5 sealed packages of cocaine concealed under their underwear. Their story? One guest was asked by a man to go on a free cruise. Once in Jamaica, the women were at a beach and met a man in a van, who then gave them a lot of money and a bag of cocaine.
