There May Be Plans for WOW Air to Fly to Asia in the Future

by Eric

Having flown on WOW airlines recently, I can say that their budget model for long haul travel can be an incredibly economical way of traveling. It is not, of course, without its challenges, but those are the bumps in the road you sign up for when you pay less than $100 for a one way fare to Europe.

Recently, WOW airlines’ CEO, Skúli Mogensen, gave an interview with Skift and made some interesting comments. In the interview, Mogensen asks if Wow airlines should try and “become the Dubai of the North.” This was in reference to Emirates’ incredible global success in building a global transportation hub in Dubai based on its central global location that made it a convenient connecting point for travel.

Similarly, Keflavik International Airport in Reykjavik offers North American travelers a similar location advantage. Mogensen indicated that he believes Reykjavik is “perfectly located between Asia, North America and Europe.” He gave an example of a flight to Beijing. It would potentially fly north and cross over Russia upon its departure from Iceland.

Would you use WOW airlines to fly to Asia?
