Hotel Review: Grand Hyatt Dubai Grand King Room

by Enoch

For my short visit to Dubai, I stayed at the Grand Hyatt Dubai, which is ~10 minutes from the airport. My Emirates flight from New York arrived pretty early, so I was at the hotel a little before 9 am.

Location & Check-In

The Grand Hyatt Dubai isn’t in the most convenient location as far as touristy activities go, though it is pretty close to the airport. I took a taxi or Uber to just about everywhere, but the Healthcare City metro station was about a mile away.

I got to the hotel at around 9 am, way before check-in time. The lobby was grand and airy, and had a center table with dates and Arabic coffee available. There was a giant chandelier hanging from the center of the lobby, which I think resembles a…pineapple?

A friendly associate helped me with the check-in process, and told me that a room should be available “in a few minutes.” I sat in the lobby for a little bit, and about 15 minutes later, the associate came by and informed me that my room was ready.

The associate escorted me to the eleavator, and I walked down a really long hallway on my floor to get to my room.

I was assigned a Grand King room, which was just the most basic room they had. The room opened into a long entryway, with a closet and bathroom on the left.

The carpet had what I thought were carpet patterns, but later in the day I saw a housekeeper on his hands and  knees meticulously scrubbing the entryway of another room!

The closet space was efficiently used, with a built-in luggage rack and ample room for clothes.

Bedroom

The bedroom was spacious, and featured a King bed, as I requested.

Across from the bed as a TV stand, with a flat screen TV and the usual mini bar supplies. Two bottles of water were replenished daily.

At the corner of the room was a large work desk, with two dining chairs.

On the table was a small bag of cookies as a welcome amenity, which was provided in addition to the points that I selected at check-in.

On the other side of the room was also an arm chair with ottoman, right in front of a huge pane of floor to ceiling window.

Bathroom

The bathroom was also very spacious, and featured dual sinks. The dark green marble and dark wood decor created a sense of “old school luxury,” but I also have to admit that it makes the hotel feel a little outdated. Of course, to each their own; I know lots of people who prefer classic designs like this.

The bathroom featured a shower and a soaking tub.

The standard toiletries at Grand Hyatt are June Jacob branded, but I got an interesting mix in my room. The shower gel and shampoos were hotel branded (with “Grand Hyatt”), and the conditioner was June Jacobs branded. The bar soaps, on the other hand, were PURE branded.  I can only assume that they are undergoing some kind of switch or shortages in toiletries, but having three different brands all appear at once was a bit strange.

Swimming Pools

The Grand Hyatt Dubai has a huge outdoor swimming pool, which was perfect for cooling off in the hot climate of Dubai. There is a special elevator that takes you to the fitness level, and a nicely decorated outdoor path that takes you to the pool.

The pool area is really made up of three pools. A giant, irregularly shaped leisure pool surrounded by beach chairs, as well as two shallow pools for toddlers and children. There were lots of people in the pools, so I didn’t take pictures.

The hotel also has a 20-meter indoor pool, suitable for swimming laps. Again, I didn’t take pictures out of respect of other guests’ privacy, but here is are two pictures from the hotel website, in case you’re curious.

Overall Impression of Grand Hyatt Dubai

I only had a very short stay at the Grand Hyatt Dubai, and found it to be a perfectly nice hotel. I didn’t have much interactions with a lot of the staff, but everyone I encountered was welcoming and friendly. The room had all the amenities I asked for, and the huge pool was a destination in itself.

I don’t love the decor of the hotel, but I also recognize that’s mostly a personal preference, and the design in many ways fit the “Grand Hyatt” brand. The location is great for business travelers, but leisure travelers might prefer hotels that are closer to the sights.

It doesn’t appear you visited the RC, which is really nice. Large, open and they even have white table cloth service from a menu. Dinner. Breakfast is great.

We like this hotel for our stop over’s however next trip we are staying at the Park for a few days.

Sadly no. My stay was too short for any meaningful visit to the Grand Club. But it sounds lovely—I will have to check it out next time!
