New Singapore Suites A380 Layout Announced

by Stephen

Fresh news out of the Lion City: Singapore Airlines’s new A380 Suites class configuration has been released and it looks like SQ is taking a page out of Etihad’s book. The new Singapore Suites cabin will be in a single-aisle, 1×1 configuration and, as was announced previously, will be on the upper deck rather than on the lower deck as in the current arrangement. Notably, the new cabin will have only 6 suites, making this the least dense A380 first class configuration of any carrier. While more specific details of the new product have been scant, this is an exciting development.

Unfortunately but unsurprisingly, this represents a sizable downgrade in capacity from the current 12-suite layout on the lower deck. Only time will tell for sure but it’s not unreasonable to imagine that this will further decrease award and upgrade availability, which on most routes is already fairly difficult to lock in, particularly at the saver level for awards.

The 76 seats in the business class cabin (currently 60 or 86, depending on configuration) will remain on the upper deck, while coach and additional premium economy seats compared to the current configuration are expected to be on the lower deck.

Per AusBT, SQ is aiming for an October launch of the new product, with SYD being the launch destination.

Hat tip to Nalin N. and The Mile Lion.

Update (as of 4/14/17 10:50 AM Eastern Time): The seatmap document, which was titled “test.pdf”, is now no longer available on the SQ website.
