Air Berlin is offering business class seats between West Coast cities and Europe for around $2,000. The low fares apply to dates as soon as mid-July, and as far out as November.
Air Berlin is a discount carrier based in Berlin, with hubs at Berlin’s Tegel Airport and Düsseldorf. The airline advertises itself among the ilk of no-frills airlines like Condor, Norwegian and WOW! Air Berlin’s A330 business class cabin is on par with some legacy airlines, however, and offers flat-bed seats with direct aisle access.
Round-trip business class fares between Los Angeles (LAX) and Florence, Italy are posting for $2,280 this summer and early fall, on specific dates. Here is an itinerary leaving July 17 and returning July 27. Use a search tool like Google Flights, Kayak or SkyScanner to find the lowest fares.
The same fare was available for an itinerary leaving in late September, returning early October.
This is a strange case where low prices weren’t extended to the non-stop leg of this itinerary. You’ll have to add about $400 if you want to omit the Düsseldorf to Florence leg on this trip.
I found similarly low fares on connecting flights from Los Angeles (LAX) to Milan Linate (LIN), and to Prague.
Again, fares in the low $2,000s are available on business class departures from San Francisco to Prague, with an additional stop at Berlin, Tegel (TXL).
If you’re looking to get between the West Coast of the United States and Europe this summer or fall, I would not hesitate to recommend Air Berlin, particularly at these prices.
Considering fuel surcharges and other taxes, it may be cheaper to book this flight through the Chase Sapphire Reserve points and miles portal than to transfer the miles to a one-world partner, i.e. British Airways, and book these flights as awards.
