After a few days in Hoi An, and running from place to place for a 10 consecutive days, I decided to spoil myself on the beach for two days by using some Chase points at the Hyatt Regency Danang.
One thing we all know about Vietnam is how cheap it is. And when cash prices are cheaper, point redemption prices are also cheaper. The Hyatt Regency Danang is a legitimate 5-star resort & spa, and costs only 12,000 Hyatt points per night. I found this to be a much nicer hotel than the Hyatt Regency Maui in Lahaina, in which a standard room goes for 20,000 points per night.
Even the hand-made drinks at the beach side bar were fairly cheap as resorts go, as this Vietnamese take on the mai tai cost less than $6, complete with scenery that can’t be beat:
The “standard King” room was large and comfortable, had an indoor and outdoor sitting area, large walk-in closet, and floor-to-ceiling windows throughout, including in the bathroom. It also had a partial ocean view:
The pool area is stunning, with an ample supply of chairs and umbrellas. There also are filtered-water stations everywhere for free refill of water bottles, which is key in a country without drinkable water.
The Danang beaches are truly beautiful as well, and are right on par with some of the nicest North American beaches that I’ve ever seen. The Danang coastline and topography are simply stunning. That was the area known as “China Beach” in the Vietnam War, and as I sat on and walked along that beach, it was hard not to think about what was going on there as recently as 45 years ago.
Additionally, the Hyatt Regency Danang is located only 25 minutes by car from one of the most visited Vietnamese cities, Hoi An, and has free shuttle service to take you to Hoi An for the afternoon and evening. So not only could this be a nice escape from the hustle and bustle of the big cities in Vietnam, but it also could be your lodging to explore Hoi An.
