Emirates Closing JFK Lounge, Meal Vouchers Instead of Substitute Lounge Access

by Adam

Emirates is closing its New York JFK lounge for refurbishments and renovations until early 2018.  In an interesting move, the airline says that they will be providing meal vouchers to customers for use in any restaurant across T4. Vouchers will only be provided to those customers who would have had lounge access.

It seems the airline has not set up any agreements to secure access to other T4 lounges.  Granted, their only partner airline at T4 is Virgin America, and their customers use the Virgin Atlantic Clubhouse. There is no way Delta was going to allow access to the SkyClub or the VA Clubhouse. El Al and Etihad certainly weren’t going to be viable options either. That leaves few other alternatives, though there is the the independent Wingtips lounge (not so great…I’d take the voucher).

  • Air India Maharaja Lounge
  • Delta Sky Club
  • El Al King David Lounge
  • Etihad First & Business Class Lounge
  • Swiss Lounge
  • Virgin Clubhouse
  • Wingtips Lounge

We’d like to let you know that we are refurbishing and upgrading our lounge in New York John F. Kennedy Airport, so that you can relax in a more inspiring space before you fly.

The lounge will be closed until early 2018 while we make these improvements. Customers who are eligible for lounge access will receive meal vouchers* that can be used in any restaurant or café across Terminal 4.

We apologise for any inconvenience while the lounge is being enhanced, and look forward to welcoming you there again soon.

Kind regards,

The Emirates Skywards team

I had booked my wife and friend JFK-DXB in EK F in late September. Apparently the lounge has been closed since Sept 1 yet no effort by EK to contact confirmed passengers. Maybe they are becoming the Icelandair of the Middle East. Disappointing for a previously premium carrier. Refurbs have to occur but appropriate alternative accommodations should be part of plan.

Not good enough in my opinion and no advance notice. Poor. The outlets don’t seem to know about the meal voucher and there is no list of co-operating outlets provided. Only when I asked where the lounge was was I told it was closed and only when I asked what provisions had been made did they give me the voucher. Disappointing Emirates!
