Earlier this week, Saudi Arabia took over the Riyadh Ritz Carlton and converted it into a luxury prison to house the princes, government officials, ministers, and billionaires implicated in the country’s crackdown on corruption. A video even surfaced of the princes sleeping on the floor of the Ritz ballroom with armed guards.
Well, now it’s emerged that the government is going a bit more downscale for their next hotel conversion, taking over the nearby Courtyard by Marriott. In both cases, the Saudi authorities simply took over the hotel and asked guests to leave immediately. The front desk of the Courtyard issued this statement to Newsweek:
“Unfortunately this month is completely fully booked,” the receptionist, speaking on condition of anonymity, confirmed, adding that December was unavailable too. An online search confirmed that a suite for December dates was unavailable. The local higher authorities booked all the hotel. We just received this order yesterday.”
Though it’s no Ritz, a Courtyard must be one of the nicest prisons in the world!
