Cathay Pacific said today that a trouser option would be added for female cabin crew during the next uniform refresh which is at least three years away. The announcement comes after the flight attendants’ union challenged the 70-year-old regulation. The initial complaint actually came from sister Cathay Dragon flight attendants association. The crew complained that the skirts weren’t appropriate when helping passengers with luggage or commuting to the airport via public transpiration. The union celebrated the news:
“We welcome and appreciate the company’s decision on giving us an option in choosing uniforms. It not only provides us one more option, but also provides us with protection.”
Cathay Pacific and Cathay Dragon released the following statement:
“Just as we recognize it is important to provide our customers with more choice, the same is also true for our colleagues.”
The airline’s flight attendants first raised concerns back in 2014 that uniforms were too revealing and could provoke sexual harassment.
