by David

American Airlines is offering triple miles on business and first class tickets for targeted AAdvantage members.

Fliers must book and fly at least four first or business class segments to qualify, and reservations must be made by September 22. To be clear, this promo directly affects earned miles only, and not EQMs.

Depending on email preferences, some eligible AAdvantageTo receive an email for the promotion, fliers must have the “AAdvantage account summary” box checked under “Email and fare alerts” in your account profile.

Anyone can use their AAdvantage number at this direct link to check if you are targeted.

Fliers must make at leats four premium cabin flights to qualify for the bonus, after which they will continue to earn triple award miles on premium cabin flights through September 22, 2018.

Eligible members must register online by June 15. Registrations must be made before travel for triple miles to come into effect. Once registered, fliers must use a promo code to qualify. A couple Point Me To The Plane staff members have received promo code P468B.

Beware of the Fine Print

  • This is an exclusive offer and not all AAdvantage members will qualify.
  • Offer applies to flights on eligible, purchased, published fares in first booked in fare class F or A, business fares booked in fare class J, R, D or I, flown between the registration date and September 22, 2018.
  • The offer applies to American marketed flights (meaning fliers must buy the ticket through American or as an American flight through a travel agent or online travel agent) including flights  operated as AA codeshares by British Airways, Iberia, Finnair or Japan Airlines. Flights operated by other Oneworld and codeshare partners aren’t eligible for this promotion.

The Upshot

If you plan to fly four or more segments in first or business class through September 22, 2018, this is a no brainer. If you are targeting an elite status tier, keep in mind that flights in first or business classes earns elite qualifying miles at a higher rate, however this bonus applies only to earned AAdvantage miles, not to elite qualifying miles

Is triple American AAdvantage miles enough of an incentive to forego booking an economy fare in favor of business or first? Share your thoughts in the comments.
