Delta announced its intentions to begin nonstop service from its Minneapolis/St. Paul (MSP) hub to Seoul-Incheon (ICN) sometime next year. The new route will be served in partnership with Delta’s joint venture partner, Korean Air. Schedule details and official start date will be announced at a later date.

Delta plans to fly its reconfigured Boeing 777-200ER aircraft featuring all new cabins, including 28 Delta One suites with doors. The carrier will also add the Delta Premium Select cabin to its 777 fleet, featuring 48 seats with a 38-inch pitch.

Finally, a Win for Economy

Delta’s all-new Main Cabin (economy) will maintain a 9-abreast, 3-3-3 configuration. Delta’s decision bucks the industry trend of reconfiguring 777 cabins to 3-4-3 in economy class, undoubtedly a very tight squeeze. The new Main Cabin will consist of 220 seats. Kudos to Delta for not squeezing in more seats!

MSP’s Second Connection to Asia

Seoul-Incheon will become Delta’s second longhaul destination to Asia from its hub in Minneapolis/St. Paul. Delta currently flies nonstop to Tokyo-Haneda and will begin utilizing the refreshed 777 on that route in 2019. The new route comes after years of aggressive expansion to Asia from Delta’s hub in Seattle. Delta’s Minneapolis/St. Paul hub will enable the carrier to offer more connections throughout the Midwest and additional connections through codeshare routes with Korean Air.
