Citi Offer: Easy Bonus Miles To Top Off Your AAdvantage Account

by Chris Dong

There’s a pretty easy American Airlines AAdvantage miles bonus floating around. Citi is enticing its existing AAdvantage Platinum Select Mastercard customers with a targeted 2,000 AAdvantage bonus miles offer. The promotion requires just $200 spend to earn the bonus, an extra 10 miles per dollar spent is a pretty lucrative offer.

The bonus period, for those targeted, runs from Oct. 1 through Oct. 31. It seems like a widely targeted email offer. Cardholders must register through a one-click activation.

Citi recently added Double AAdvantage miles on restaurant and gas station purchases to make the card more attractive. Don’t have the card? Citi is offering 50,000 AAdvantage bonus miles after spending $2,500 within 3 months of account opening.

This promo is a nice step up from the rather stingy offers I’d received from Citi over the last several months. These included:

  • 2,000 bonus AAdvantage miles after spending $1000
  • 2,500 bonus AAdvantage miles after adding an authorized user AND also spending $2500
Citi's miserly offer of one additional mile per dollar.

Citi’s former miserly offer of one additional mile per dollar + adding an authorized user.

Citi and Barclays are duking it out for a share of American Airline’s co-branded credit card business. While this offer isn’t the deal of the century, it’s a way to easily rack up 2,000 AAdvantage miles from everyday purchases. You’re well on your way to that redemption on the Etihad Apartment😛
