AmEx Adds Avianca as Newest Membership Rewards Transfer Partner

by Adam

Just under a year ago, Citi added Avianca LifeMiles as a transfer partner and now today AmEx has done the same! American Express and Avianca Airlines officially announced this morning that Card Members enrolled in the Membership Rewards® program can soon transfer Membership Rewards® points to LifeMiles at a 1:1 ratio.

Like many in the points/miles community, I’ve used LifeMiles often to redeem for partner premium cabin awards with no fuel surcharges…and I’ve actually never booked a redemption on Avianca. I ‘ve also, of course, made use of the well known “secret” of using their cash + points to book First Class domestic awards on United at amazing values.

Besides being able to transfer from Citi, LifeMiles are readily available throughout the year for purchase at under 1.5 cents and so you’ll really want to consider if it makes sense to transfer your AmEx points to Avianca rather than purchasing them directly.

In any case, that brings the American Express Membership Rewards® frequent flyer program partner count to 18 and AmEx notes that they have the most airlines at a 1:1 or better transfer ratio (16).
