World of Hyatt Announces Even More Partnerships, Adds More Hotels

by Sarah

Hot on the heels of last week’s Small Luxury Hotel (SLH) additions from World of Hyatt (WOH) comes yet another not-surprising announcement of two more loyalty alliances. First, touched on by most all major blogs and news outlets, is the partnership with American Airlines. Less visible, however, is the announcement of the addition of Joie de Vivre hotels into the WOH portfolio.

Joie de Vivre Hotels are playful and funky – all set in the heart of diverse American cities.

Joie de Vivre Joins World of Hyatt

Joie de Vivre is a former Two Roads Hospitality brand, which merged with Hyatt last fall. Calling themselves “a collection of heartfelt stories brought to life as boutique neighborhood hotels,” Joie de Vivre’s portfolio includes Hotel Kabuki in San Francisco, Carmel Valley Ranch in Carmel, Park South Hotel in NYC, and Hotel Revival in Baltimore. Located in the heart of their respective cities, these hotels are funky, fun, and definitely cater toward individuals looking to have a good time.

This addition of 17 hotels brings the number of lifestyle boutique hotels in the WOH portfolio to more than 200. If you recall, the Small Luxury Hotels portfolio added over 200, with Thompson Hotels bringing in another ten. These mostly small boutique hotels allow World of Hyatt members to earn and redeem points at properties across the globe, including in places where Hyatt’s portfolio was never strong — like Europe, Asia, and South and Central America.

World of Hyatt members are also able to take advantage of on-property benefits at participating hotels. This may include complimentary upgrades, breakfast for two, or hotel credits. Hyatt announced, “The swift addition of these brands into the program displays Hyatt’s commitment to delivering more rewarding and unique destinations across the globe for guests and members to explore. By connecting these brands with Hyatt’s global network of hotels, members will have more choices to find the right hotel for every unique itinerary, while enjoying the same rewards they’ve come to expect from World of Hyatt.”

Joie de Vivre rooms are spacious and bright, all with local character.

To sweeten the deal even further, Hyatt is offering members even more perks just to try the brands out. WOH members can earn 2,000 Bonus Points for their first qualifying stay at participating hotels in each of the new brands, for up to 8,000 Bonus Points, as well as a free night when they try all four brands. Additionally, all World of Hyatt credit card holders will earn an additional 4x Bonus Points when spending at participating Joie de Vivre Hotels. Hyatt credit card holders will earn an additional 3x Bonus Points.

World of Hyatt Members Can Earn AAdvantage Miles

Hyatt also announced that AAdvantage elite members will earn bonus miles on qualifying Hyatt stays and experiences and World of Hyatt elite members will earn Bonus Points on qualifying American Airline flights. Members can link their accounts to earn and redeem even more.

Hyatt says, “unique to this collaboration, eligible Platinum, Platinum Pro, and Executive Platinum AAdvantage members, and Explorist and Globalist World of Hyatt members may have opportunities to participate in limited-time elite status offers. The first limited-time offer launches today, providing eligible elite members with the ability to immediately enjoy elite benefits in the other program after registering as they work to achieve higher elite status. AAdvantage elite members will have access to World of Hyatt benefits, including a dedicated check-in area, late check-out upon request, room upgrades and free premium internet. World of Hyatt elite members will have access to AAdvantage benefits such as priority boarding, free checked bags, free preferred seats and more.”

The Upshot

Hyatt’s expansion is excellent news for travelers seeking authentic and luxurious hotel experiences in unique destinations around the world. The American partnership is a nice incremental bonus that is primarily a perk for ConciergeKey (automatic Globalist status) and Executive Platinums (a challenge to Globalist). On the Hyatt side, this allows elite members to at least get a taste of the perks of American status.

I have always been a big fan of Hyatt hotels and in recent years, have been staying in some of the Joie de Vivre hotels (in San Francisco.) I am glad they are now part of the program, but some of the hotels, like Hotel Vitale, will not be participating in the WOrld of Hyatt program (no points!)
