AA – We’ll Fly A Lot of Flights from LGA to the W. Coast…if the perimeter rule is removed

by Adam

AA president Scott Kirby said this at today’s JP Morgan Aviation and Transportation conference:

“What would happen if you did change the perimeter rule is, yes, we would fly transcon. We’d fly a lot of flights from LaGuardia to the West Coast, and we’d fly them with bigger aircraft. So one, there’d be less small-community service out of LaGuardia than there is today, and there’d be significant increase in the gauge and the number of passengers flying through LaGuardia, and that’s already a strained airport. So anything that talks about changing the perimeter rule at LaGuardia has got to consider the facility issue and have a facility that’s prepared to handle a significant increase in the number of passengers.”

United’s CFO said:

“New York is a competitive marketplace. What you’re citing is just another example of that. But our focus is to run the very best operation out of New York of all the hubs, and at the same point in time, we want to provide the very best product for our customers. Given that choice and the schedule that’s provided out of Newark, it will remain I think the best  airport in this area, the crown jewel”.

What are we talking about? See Long-Haul Flights Coming to LaGuardia? LAX, SFO, SEA, LAS, LHR, CDG, & DUB??

Rare is it that “Newark” and “crown jewel” are heard together.
