Additional SkyMiles Award Opportunities to Europe…Air Europa by LOT Polish!

by Adam

SkyTeam partner Air Europa has announced plans to increase frequency on both their JFK and MIA routes to Madrid (MAD). Some of the JFK flights will even be operated on B787 aircraft by LOT Polish Airlines (a HUGE improvement over the standard Air Europa A330). Air Europa availability can be viewed on ExpertFlyer and the KLM/Air France websites, but you must call Delta to book the flights. That’s where the fun begins.  I’ve been told by agents that miles cannot be earned or redeemed with Air Europa, others have never heard of the airline.  Eventually,  you’ll find someone who can help. Here are the updated frequencies:

Madrid – Miami eff 04JUN15 Increase from 5 weekly to 6 weekly, 7th weekly to be added from 23JUN15
UX097 MAD1500 – 1850MIA 332 D
UX098 MIA2150 – 1250+1MAD 332 D

Madrid – New York JFK 25JUN15 – 10SEP15 Increase from 6 weekly to daily
UX091 MAD1730 – 2005JFK 332 x7
UX091 MAD1730 – 2005JFK 787 7

UX092 JFK2205 – 1150+1MAD 332 x7
UX092 JFK2205 – 1150+1MAD 787 7*

*Boeing 787 is operated by LOT Polish Airlines.

Since these are partner awards they book at the low level.  It is important to note that Air Europa business class service will not be equivalent with the Delta 767-400 service on the same route.  Business class on Air Europa’s A330-200 includes angled lie flat seats, a video monitor, and meal service. What’s real interesting, is the announcement states that on some days the JFK flight will be operated with B787 from LOT Polish. Now, their service isn’t great either but this is a huge improvement as you’ll have a lie-flat seat. Check out my LOT Polish 787 review here – Trip Report – The New LOT Polish 787 Dreamliner – Lots of Pics.

If you are flying on a regular Air Europa A330 flight the reviews are not the best, though they are decent enough if you are desperate to fly to/from Madrid on specific dates and only want to redeem at the low level. In fact some of the meal reviews are actually pretty good and the seats may be improving soon as per press release from Air France-KLM that states “Air Europa has signed a new contract with AFI KLM E&M to provide and certify Business Class sections on two of its Airbus A330-200 aircraft. The modification covers fitting of 18 Business Class seats, new storage furniture and decorative features, and also involves adapting the IFE to the new aircraft configuration.

You can see examples of the seats in both classes and further descriptions here. Check out the business class menu below.
