You might be shocked to hear it, but according to the Moodie Report, the best airport fast food restaurant in the world is right here in New York! The winner resides at JFK in the newly extended and updated Terminal 4. Danny Meyer’s Shake Shack at JFK T4 has been crowned this year’s winner.

SSP America, in partnership with JFKIAT, is pleased to announce that Shake Shack’s location in John F. Kennedy International Airport’s Terminal 4 has been named the “Best Fast Food/Quick Service Restaurant” by The Moodie Report at its 2013 annual Airport Food & Beverage (FAB) Awards held in Dubai, UAE.  Shake Shack was selected by a panel of industry experts among a record number of entries from airports and railway stations around the globe.  This distinct honor recognizes Shake Shack as the very best in its category worldwide. Shake Shack’s location in the newly expanded Terminal 4 on Delta Air Lines’ B Concourse is operated in partnership with SSP America and is the restaurant’s first location in a U.S. airport.

“The Moodie Report’s top recognition of Shake Shack at Terminal 4 represents further evidence of ongoing efforts to provide travelers with high-quality services at JFK International Airport,’’ said Pat Foye, executive director of the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, the airport’s operator.  “Together with our airline, terminal and food industry partners, we are committed to bringing in first-rate restaurants and shops like Shake Shack that will help JFK continue to live up to its position as America’s premier gateway.”

Best IN THE WORLD? I’d say inside the U.S. that Tortas Frontera at O’Hare is better. That this isn’t obviously better than La Carreta (Cuban) at MIA. And that it may not even be the best BURGER at a U.S. airport … at least consider Burger Joint at SFO, right?

All have carryout so should qualify for fast food at least in the traditional sense.

And if you want to talk about in the WORLD…

Agreed that Tortas is probably better… but on it’s best day it’s only borderline “fast” food 🙂

@Gary – Hah, I’m a huge La Carreta and Tortas fan in the US and had some of my favorite sushi ever at Mouko @ NRT. I guess the Danny Meyer / New T4 hype helped with this selection…

Tortas at ORD is sorely overrated. I went in with low expectations (it is airport food), and even those were too high. The service was decent, but the food was awful. Too salty, little heat, stale chips, and no discernible flavor in the pool of grease floating on the tortilla soup. A huge disappointment. In comparison, that Shake Shack burger above looks divine.
