Cathay Pacific’s Unveils New Lounge “The Deck” in Hong Kong

by Enoch

Cathay Pacific operates a number of lounges in their hub in Hong Kong, and have been on a roll updating them to reflect the new design language. The G16 lounge, previously a Dragonair (now Cathay Dragon) lounge, has been temporarily closed since 2016 for renovations. But it would appear the wait is finally over. Cathay Pacific today announced that a new Business Class lounge, The Deck, will open in Hong Kong on March 22, 2018, at the old G16’s location.

Cathay Pacific is proud of their lounges, and they should be—they consistently offer high quality service and dining options, and I’d say that their designs are full of character. The new lounge concept has been hugely popular, and has been rolled out abroad to focus cities like Tokyo-Haneda and London Heathrow. I personally love the warm feeling these lounges bring; they make me feel less like I’m at an airport, and more like I’m in the living room of a luxury home.

Every one of Cathay Pacific’s lounge in Hong Kong has somewhat of a distinctive feature, and The Deck is no exception. Its location near Gate 16 means it offers an indoor balcony of sorts, which Cathay is calling “The Terrace.”

From The Terrace, an open-ceiling L-shaped verandah featuring both table and individual seating, lounge visitors can take in panoramic views of the airport’s apron, taxi-ways and northern runway whilst enjoying their choice from a wide variety of drinks and dining options.

The Deck will offer other usual amenities as well. A variety of comfortable seating options is available for up to 180 passengers. There will also be 8 shower suites, where passengers can freshen up before a flight.

There will also be another staple of Cathay Pacific’s lounges, the Noodle Bar, where you can enjoy a bowl of made-to-order noodles.

The Deck joins Cathay Pacific’s other lounges in Hong Kong, which include The Bridge (Business), The Wing (First/Business), and The Pier (First/Business). Meanwhile, “The Cabin,” which debut in 2010, will be closed permanently on April 30, 2018.

The Deck is open to Business and First Class passengers, as well as oneworld Sapphire and Emerald members, starting March 22, 2018.
