Typically Chase has been at the forefront of trying to stop churners from opening cards just for the signup bonuses. With additions like 5/24, extending the bonus time to 4 years for Sapphire cards, and most recently limiting individuals to one card per person per brand. All of these tools have made it increasingly more difficult to acquire Chase’s coveted Ultimate Rewards points. Thankfully, Chase has just released a new tool, similar to American Express, that lets you know upfront if you are bonus eligible.

With these constantly changing application rules and requirements, it can be difficult for someone like me who follows things to keep track of bonus eligibility. Therefore, I would not expect the average person to be able to keep track of everything. On top of that there are applicants who don’t follow along with any rules and might apply for a card while actually not being bonus eligible. With all of those in mind I am thrilled that Chase is now sharing with applicants their bonus status.
As Chase is set to release new cards with the Marriott Bonvoy program adding another level of complications, it only makes sense to inform applicants about their eligibility up front. Now when applying for Chase cards a consumer will be prompted with a popup screen. An example below asks if the consumer would like to proceed without a signup bonus.
First, H/T to Doctor of Credit and his reader Mark for this tip. Second, this is a huge win for everyone as it will lead to less frustration. Especially after not getting a bonus after going through the necessary steps. As a result, I’m hoping that with this implementation that other banks will soon follow suit. Clear understanding about bonus eligibility is long overdue and this is a huge step in the right direction.
