Thanks to AMEX we received $50 off our dinner purchase of $75 or more at the North End Grill last Saturday. The North End Grill is the newest restaurant from Danny Meyer’s Union Square Hospitality Group and is located at the Conrad New York in Battery Park City. The restaurant was really nice and the food was amazing, though the discount barely covered more than one entree, prices ranged from $26-$52. I had almost forgotten about the offer which arrived in the mail in late November and expired on March 1st. The offer stated “present this dining card to receive $50 off your dinner purchase of $75 or more in the main dining room 12/1/12 – 3/1/13 when you pay with any American Express Card.” AMEX and North End Grill made out well on their “promo” as we normally wouldn’t have gone down to Battery Park for dinner or spent as much on the entrees, though we really had a great time. I’d highly recommend the restaurant if you happen to be downtown.

Within the last year, AMEX has saved me half off a digital camera at Best Buy thanks to a Twitter SYNC promo, saved me $175 in dry cleaning thanks to their Shop Small campaign, credited me $25 (3x) for shopping at one of my favorite stores via a Facebook sync promo, saved us $25 at a local restaurant (2x), and provided $50 at North End Grill. It definitely pays to have several AMEX cards when it comes to promo registration!

Nice to hear that you did well – and got in just under the wire. If nothing else, please remember it is customary to tip your server on the entire bill, before any discount is applied. (I don’t like the tipping customs, especially as applied in NYC, but that’s the way it is. And to add insult to injury, servers in a few places have now convinced themselves that they are ‘entitled’ to 25%. Um, I don’t think so! If one stays out of NYC, a solid 15%, for excellent service is plenty. Remember, whenever the house raises prices, the computed tip goes up. Increasing the percent above 20% is not justified. [Rant Mode=OFF]. As most folks know, not all AMEX cards are made the same and the member benefits are all over the map. It DOES look like a wonderful meal…
