Disney MagicMobile Launches, a Free MagicBand Alternative!

by Miles Jackson

Disney just announced the release of Disney MagicMobile service for their Walt Disney World Resort. This feature will provide a great amenity and convenience for guests; and a no-contact option for many hotel and park features. This comes just in time for their 50th anniversary. This new service will be a mobile alternative to MagicBands that were introduced to the Disney World park in January 2013.

Disney MagicMobile Offer MagicBand Features

In an announcement to travel agents, Disney stated:

“The MagicBand, the colorful wristband guests wear at Walt Disney World Resort, makes each visit even simpler and more seamless. We’ve continued to invent and innovate, and soon, we’ll be debuting a new option: Disney MagicMobile service!”

MagicBands are plastic bracelets which contain RFID radios and are worn by guests at the Walt Disney World Resort. MagicBands are an integral element of Disney’s MyMagic experience. Using this contactless technology provides a method for the system to connect data to guests. This allows guests to enter parks, hotel rooms, make payments and obtain PhotoPass photos. Using the MagicMobile app will provide the same features for guests who download and use the application on their iphone or smartphone.

Guests also have access to Disney FastPass+ while in the parks with use of the Disney MagicMobile app. FastPass+ allows guests to get access to rides and experiences faster than waiting in long lines for popular attractions.

The Disney MagicMobile service will be launched in phases throughout this year. The Disney MagicMobile service is a contactless and convenient way to access MagicBand features like theme park entry through the power of an iPhone, Apple Watch or other smart device.

Imagine putting away paper tickets, your purse or wallet, cash and hotel keys and still enjoying the many amenities of the Disney World experience. Guests will eventually be able to use the MagicMobile app throughout the Disney World Resort and hotels by the end of the year.

Disney MagicMobile is Great Alternative for Disney Guests

MagicBands are no longer offered complimentary to all Disney Resort hotel Guests. That makes Disney’s MagicMobile the perfect (and free) alternative to purchasing a MagicBand for your experience.

Disney’s existing digital room key feature will continue to be available exclusively within the My Disney Experience app. This allows guests to expedite their arrival by using online hotel check-in service, then proceeding directly to their Disney Resort hotel room. They also can use their phone to unlock their door. If desired, hotel guests at the Disney Resort may also request a Key to the World room key card by visiting the front desk.

Best Credit Card to Use for Your Disney Vacation

I recommend the Chase Sapphire Reserve, which in my opinion is the best for booking packages or booking via travel agencies to Disney Parks and Hotels.

Even with dining options, the Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card offers double points on dining, and provide more flexibility than you get with Disney Reward Dollars.

Final Thoughts

Disney’s announcement to offer a free option of the Disney MagicMobile pass via the My Disney Experience app offers another great contactless option. This is great news during the current COVID pandemic. It not only offers peace of mind by reducing contacts in the parks and hotels, it also is very convenient. I can’t wait until it has a full rollout!
