Frontier Passenger Pukes, Opens A321 Door, Deploys Escape Slide

by John Harper

A bizarre turn of events at the airport in Cancun yesterday. A panicked Frontier Airlines passenger, onboard an already taxiing flight from Cancun, Mexico to St. Louis, ripped open the mid-forward exit door and attempted to jump out, right in front of an active jet turbine. This, from the Daily Mail:

In a shocking video, recorded by passenger Kathleen Ingram, the man is seen opening the cabin door in a panic while the powerful jet engines were running.

Several accounts have mentioned that the man was throwing up, though there’s no footage depicting any physical illness.

Witnesses said the man began to be sick while the aircraft was taxiing in preparation for take off.

Passengers then claim he then ran up to the cockpit and started pounding on the door.

Cabin crew intervened and returned the man to his seat, but he then got up and opened the cabin door.

The emergency slide was then deployed. Available video footage then shows the individual standing next to a police car, consoled.

Some outlets reported that the man had been struck in the head during an altercation at his hotel the night before.

This incident is certainly not as disturbing as the wine-bottle fight that ensued last year when a non-revenue passenger tried to pry open the door on a Delta 767, at altitude. Still, a very unusual turn of events.
