Book Business Class on the Lufthansa A350 “Test Flight” for the Price of Economy

by Enoch

In just one week, Lufthansa will be the latest airline to take delivery of the Airbus A350. On December 19, 2016, Lufthansa will receive the aircraft in Toulouse, and transport it to Munich two days later.

Of the 25 A350s ordered, 10 will be based in Munich, and Lufthansa has yet to announce where the remaining 15 will be based. After the initial training, the Lufthansa A350 will enter service on the Munich (MUC) – Delhi (DEL) route on February 10, 2017.

Before the official launch of commercial service, though, Lufthansa will be operating a special flight to celebrate the occasion. On February 9, 2017, Lufthansa will be flying the A350 from Munich (MUC) to Hamburg (HAM), and do a same-day turnaround. The plane will leave Munich at 10:30 am, and return at around 5 pm.

For €179 (~US$190), you can be on the “inaugural test flight.” The price includes roundtrip transportation, so you are really just flying for the sake of experiencing the Lufthansa A350. However, Lufthansa is selling just one flat fare to any cabin, so if you book early enough, you can select a Business Class seat or Premium Economy seat, and pay just the same fare.

Granted, Lufthansa’s Business Class is nothing to call home about. The airline only introduced flat beds in Business Class a few years ago, and the seats are arranged in a 2-2-2 configuration. This means not every passenger has direct aisle access, something that’s becoming commonplace even among US carriers. The pairs of seats also angle toward each other, so some people have reportedly run into a bit of a “footsie” situation in-flight.

Reservation for this special flight will open December 13, 2016, and you can book your ticket on the airline’s website.

For those of you based in Munich or might be around on February 9, will you be booking this special Lufthansa A350 flight?

My god how long is the layover in HAM? MUC-HAM should only be about 1h15 each way. Now this trip is practically an all day excursion. The ICE would be faster!

It’s after midnight in Munich. When and where are these going on sale? Sounds fun!
