Mandalay Bay Letter to Guests: Ask Employees How They Are Doing, Offer Encouragement

by Adam

In the wake of the horrible tragedy and deadliest mass shooting in modern US history, Mandalay Bay has created a letter that every guest now receives on their pillow. Chuck Bowling, President & COO of the resort tells guests in the letter that if they are looking for ways to help, simply providing support to the resort staff is huge.

“If you see an employee at one of our resorts, ask how they are doing, offer words of encouragement. If you post to your social channels to let your friends and family know you are in Las Vegas and finding the joy in life, include #VegasStrong.”

Bowling also informs guests that the hotel will be covered in a new wrap with the words #VegasStrong.

As a symbol of strength on the Las Vegas Strip, we will be adding #VegasStrong to the building’s exterior. Please be advised that a building wrap will be installed on the east facing portion of the Mandalay Bay tower and the installation crew and equipment may be visible from your guest room during that time.

They need to demolish the building and rebuild on the space occupied by the concert venue. It will be huge financial hit to MGM but anything less is a grossly inadequate response. Sorry, but a letter and a pillow mint doesn’t make the grade.

How does demolishing the hotel serve any purpose. You will be traumatising employees even more by this act. Tearing down a hotel due to the stupidity of one man is rather strange.

Keep the floor or the room unoccupied but demolishing the entire hotel is simply foolish. I have no idea how demolishing a hotel is an “adequate response.”

@BruceWalker tear down the hotel? Say what? Whys hsould the hotel be torn down because one idiot chose to use it as his base for mass murder? Thats punishing the employees even further,.
I also feel that this letter to guests is a little strange. Why? I was employed at the Taj mahal Palace Mumbai on 26/11. The hotel didnt shut down. In fact t Tower Wing & the Trident Nariman Point, both opened on the same day 3 weeks after the attacks. Full renovations were conducted in the Palace Wing, as well as The Oberoi, and they both reopened 2 years after those hideous attacks. AT no point, however did either companies management ask their guests to check up on their staff. They did though offer counselling services to all staff for up to 3 years after the attacks. Guests are guests. Never use a tragedy of this nature to get your guests to ask after your staff.
