Photos: Glassware and Ice Cream Service Is Back At American Airlines!

by Giovanni

Premium passengers have something sweet to look forward to again when flying American Airlines. Beginning Wednesday, November 10, American is reintroducing glassware and its fan-favorite ice cream service to international flights and domestic premium services.

AA insider @xJonNYC was one of the first out of the gate with the news back in October. He confirmed the news on Wednesday, Tweeting out a photo of some ice cream served with pecans on an American service between Miami and Los Angeles:

Glassware is back on American Airlines Domestic First Class

I was lucky enough to be flying American on Wednesday. My flight started on domestic first-class connecting to international business class service. The rollout of the return of glassware seemed bumpy.

Full glassware was used on the domestic first-class service flying Boeing 777-300ER equipment but no ice cream service was offered. Still, it’s nice to be able to sit in your seat sipping your drink from a proper glass.

Unfortunately, my international flight experienced catering issues and drinks continued to be served in plastic cups. The flight was delayed as we waited for catering to load after boarding and special meals were left behind.

After takeoff, we were forced to make do with a combination of dishes served on glassware and drinks served in plastic cups (many of which seemed to have been squashed and were malformed).

Luckily, the ice cream made it on board!

Unlike xJonNYC’s source, I didn’t have the option of having pecans or any nuts as a topping. But after months of pandemic-driven cutbacks, it was a delicious step in the path back to normal.

The Upshot

Ice cream is a highlight of the passenger experience for many of us. Starting this week, it’s returning to American Airlines alongside proper glassware. Hopefully, they’re able to work through the kinks quickly and passengers will be able to (consistently) look forward to something sweet on their next American Airlines flight.
