Striking as a Diamond: Wyndham and Caesars Rewards Status Match

by Bill Shuman

It’s been over 18 months since this initial article was written and boy have there been quite a few changes to cover! During this entire time, I still haven’t stayed at a single Wyndham property, and I am a lot less inclined to do so after the most recent devaluation of their point redemption awards. However, I’m ecstatic to report that this status matching still works as it allows for Diamond status at Wyndham and Caesars Rewards (formally known as Total Rewards) for the 2020 calendar year.

a man standing in front of a sign

From one of my previous trips to play at the World Series of Poker in Las Vegas.

As an avid poker player I am at the casino at least once a week where I earn comps for playing. However, earning 17 Tier Credits per hour would mean that I would need to play 883 hours of poker in a year to achieve Diamond status. Having a 5-year-old and newborn at home means I usually only get a few hours one night a week free. This barely would have gotten me to Platinum status last year. However, because of the partnership that exists between Caesars Entertainment and Wyndham, I was able to match to Diamond, and retain it for both programs, which is a massive win for me.

Gaining Wyndham Status and Staggered Status Tier Calendars

The primary step in gaining Caesars Rewards Diamond status was to first acquire my Wyndham status. I initially did this through a status match to my Marriott Platinum Elite status at the end of 2018. Similar to Hyatt and Mlife, Wyndham and Caesars Rewards use non-traditional calendar years that overlap, meaning that it’s possible to, for a short time, hold Diamond status in both programs for a short period after completing a status match. Then at the beginning of February 2020, I status matched using the off calendar years to both Wyndham and Caesars Diamond.

It should also be noted that there is nothing in the Wyndham T&C that indicates that previous status matches are ineligible for this status match. Therefore, it appears that anyone who holds status from a qualifying hotel chain would be eligible for this match. In addition, based upon several data points, it is possible that this status matching between Wyndham and Caesars will work from year to year.

For those that need Wyndham Diamond follow these steps below:

  1. See if you qualify for the Wyndham status match promotion. Side note: If you are in the military, veteran, reserves, or spouse of one of those groups you can get a special Platinum card even if you can’t get a match.
  2. If you do, log into the account that you want to use for the status match and take a screenshot.a screenshot of a credit card
  3. Use the link in Step 1 to log into your Wyndham account. From here use the drop down tab to pick which outside program you are matching and enter in your current status. a screenshot of a loyalty program
  4. Nothing you have to do here but wait for Wyndham to email you back. a building with a roof and a stone pillar

Caesars Rewards Diamond Benefits

Here are the new benefits that are now available to me that I did not have under my previous Gold (base level) status:

  • Gift up to 5,000 Reward Credits to a friend (limit of two transfers per year).
  • 15% off best available advertised rate on rooms and suites.
  • No resort fees on any hotel stay.
  • Guaranteed Room with 72 hours notice in Atlantic City and Las Vegas.
  • Complimentary valet & self-parking at many destinations, including Las Vegas and Atlantic City.
  • $100 Celebration Dinner.
  • Gain access to Diamond Lounges***
  • Priority lines at hotel check-in, restaurants, casino cages and the Caesars Rewards Center.
  • Access to the VIP Reservations Hotline.
  • Complimentary stay at Atlantis, Paradise Island in The Bahamas.
  • Tier Status match with Wyndham Rewards (and visa versa).
  • 20% discounts on select Norwegian Cruise Line vacation.
  • Free Nights in Vegas, Atlantic City and Dubai

***Caesars Rewards used to give this benefit for free to all Diamond members, but at the beginning of 2018 free entry requires 25,000 Tier Points earned during the previous calendar year. Without it admission is $10/per person per visit.

The last two years my wife and I have enjoyed a free $100 credit toward dinners at some of the nicest Caesars Entertainment steakhouses. We also enjoyed free show tickets to Penn and Teller during our Vegas trip last year. In addition, being able to skip the long buffet lines in Vegas saved a ton of time. Not having to pay resort fees, free valet and self-parking saved us a lot of money during our casino trips.

How to Get Caesars Rewards Diamond Status

  1. Once you are successfully a Wyndham Diamond member, use this link to login to your Caesars Rewards account.

a screenshot of a screenshot of a match your status

  1. Enter in your Wyndham account number into the box. a screenshot of a login form
  2. In about a week, log into your Caesars Rewards account and you should see your new Diamond Status! Note: I did my match on Feb. 1st and got upgraded on Feb. 6th. I did not get an email from Caesars to confirm.   screens screenshot of a credit card

Final Thoughts

Overall, this very generous status match offer. Anyone with plans to stay at a Wyndham or a Caesars Entertainment property in the near future would be crazy not to take advantage. There is even an opportunity, if you live near the Borgata Atlantic City, or are crazy enough to fly there like I did you can turn your newly minted Caesars Rewards status into Mlife Gold which could then turn into Hyatt Explorist, Hard Rock Rock Royalty, and other statuses.

This is what one might call a bonanza.

Great info! Is the TR status match only valid for 90 days, or is it for 12 months?

Bill Shuman December 4, 2018 - 6:47 pm

The TR matching I got in October was good till the end of Jan. If you won’t need your TR status right away I’d get the Wyndham status match set up and then wait until Feb. 1 (still under the 90 day Wyndham matching window) to match over to TR as that would give you status with them until Jan 31. 2020, or a full year vs. 2 months if you did it now.

If you have already status matched Wyndham over to TR, can you still ‘re-match’ Feb 1st to get it for another year?

Reply
Bill Shuman December 21, 2018 - 3:47 pm

If you still hold Wyndham Diamond status on Feb. 1st it couldn’t hurt to try. Worst that happens is TR says no.

Bill, great post, thank you! I’m curious, is the Mlife match coming from TR diamond only available at Borgata? Or can it be done at any Mlife property?

Reply
Bill Shuman December 7, 2018 - 9:01 am

Kyle,

As of now, the only property that I know of that is willing to match TR is Borgata. They even publish it online that they will match it, but it must be done in person at the desk. I’ve tried getting it matched at the Gold Strike near me in Tunica without any luck thus far. I’m going to keep trying and see if I get lucky. However, if anyone knows any other properties that match, please share and I will update the post. Occasionally, Mlife will offer a promotion to match TR status, but it is very rare so I’m not counting on that happening. Thanks for taking the time to read.

In Atlantic City, the new Hard Rock Casino will give you top tier Rock Royalty status if you go in and show your TR Diamond card. That comes with 2 free nights at their hotel (also the fact of having TR Diamond is an independent basis for an additional free hotel night offer), also 2 free buffet or loung entries, and $100 in slots play (also can be used for video poker/black jack). We had a fun weekend spending all of these. Thanks to Wyndham challenge and TR status match.

Mary,

That’s awesome news that this status match continues to roll out more benefits. I’m so glad you got to have a whole weekend of fun. Oddly enough I was at my TR anniversary dinner acquired through this status match last night while you were posting! Thanks for reading and following up on your success.

Not knowing how long the match will be offered means it’s better to match now. Plus your 90 days of Wyndham puts you into March.

Reply
Kyle Hawkins January 1, 2019 - 1:15 pm

I just applied for my TR Match today (my Wyndham only good thru 1/11/19 bc I did it too early. The way I read TR terms, this should grant me TR Diamond through 1/31/20. Bill, do please let us know how the Borgata match goes. Don’t have any great way to get there, but the Hyatt Explorist is a great perk to match to.

If I have Hilton Diamond can I match? Or how do I go about doing this?

Reply

Julie,

With Hilton Diamond you can match to Wyndham Diamond and therefore get TR Diamond from this status match. Follow the steps above and select Hilton as your status match program. All you will need is a screenshot of your Hilton Diamond status handy. GL and enjoy!

I know the Wyndham match lasts only 90 days- if you get this matched to total rewards does anyone know if that only last for 90 days? Or until the 1st Feb? (In which case if I wait till st Feb to match will I get it for a year?)

Reply
Bill Shuman January 14, 2019 - 1:43 pm

Total Rewards lasts until Jan. 31 of the follow year, so if you match in Feb. you will have TR status until the end of Jan. 2020.

So I just got matched to Wyndham diamond from marriott platinum elite a day ago, so what you are saying is that now i can match to total rewards and i would be diamond until next year? I am also going atlantic city next month and i would be able to get m life gold by by status matching the total rewards diamond into m life gold?

If yes, holly cow!

Reply
Bill Shuman January 17, 2019 - 5:45 am

That’s a good summary of it except you forgot that after you acquire Mlife Gold you can also pick up Hyatt Explorist status and get 4 Club Awards if you do it prior to Feb. 28.

I’ve had 3 or 4 people, including myself, that took a day or so to go through. There is hope! Even if it comes through mid stay you should be able to talk with the desk and get your resort fees waived.

I did a status match in Atlantic City, NJ back in the Summer and received Diamond with Total Rewards which expired yesterday on Jan 31st 2019. I just went in and entered in my Wyndham status and it says I will be Diamond so it looks like I might have been able to extend it again. I’ll let you know what happens! Biggest perk IMO is no resort fees on comp rooms and no parking fees in Atlantic City, NJ.

Reply
Mike R February 1, 2019 - 6:21 am

Good to know. I’m about to try it as well, I matched a month ago not realizing it would expire Jan 31st, so going to see if I can re-match and extend it.

But don’t you get no resort fees on any room, not just comp rooms?

Reply
Bill Shuman February 2, 2019 - 8:53 pm

No resort fees on comp nights or on paid nights stays at all Caesars properties if you hold Diamond status. Pretty nice especially when those resort fees keep creeping higher and higher.

Reply
Bill Shuman March 4, 2019 - 9:46 am

Wendy,

After you get the Wyndham match to go through you will then want to match to Caesars Rewards (formerly Total Rewards). The only way to get Mlife status from this is to go in person to the Borgata in Atlantic City. I just wrote up another article about my trip to do just that found here:

Has anyone transferred Wyndham points to Caesars RCs recently? I put in a transfer yesterday for 10,000 and they were deducted from my Wyndham acct, but not showing on my Caesars yet. I’ll be in LV next week so I’m hoping they hit my account in time.

Absinthe May 3, 2019 - 5:37 pm

I wish I had checked into this before my recent stay at PH since I somehow still have Titanium Elite status with Marriott. The company even put me in a Wyndham property too for the “business” portion of the trip. Haven’t been back to Vegas since most of the casinos started charging for parking. Does TR Diamond status provide any parking benefits?

Reply
Bill Shuman May 3, 2019 - 9:34 pm

Good news is that TR Diamond gets you free self and valet parking at all properties.

https://www.caesars.com/parking

Also, just a few days ago the Wynn got rid of their parking charges so it’s possible the other casinos will follow suit like they did when they implemented them.

What if my Diamond status expires, since I matched to IHG, and don’t have enough points to maintain diamond with Wyndham? Would I be able to match again, with Wyndham? Do they allow you to do it more than once? I just did it and should have waited until the first of the year, because now both Wyndham and Caesars expire in a few months.

Reply
Timothy September 11, 2019 - 4:56 pm

Barbara, From what I understand Caesars rewards does not end until January 31 so you will have the month of January to renew your Wyndham diamond. Then once that is complete on February 1 you can renew your Caesars rewards via your Wyndham status. It seems to me we are fortunate that the expiration dates are a month apart.

My Wyndham status came from matching from Marriott Platinum. My plan this year though is to use my MGM Gold status or cycle the Wyndham/Caesars Diamonds to retain status at both, similar to the plan you outlined.

Reply
Bill Shuman October 1, 2019 - 8:29 pm

Ash, stop by any Caesars casino to get a card made at either the rewards desk or at a kiosk. The other thing you can do is download the Caesars Rewards app and pull up your card on there. I believe they will take that at the Borgata.

I recently matched my HHonors Gold to Wyndham Diamond. I may have done this too early because my Wyndham status ends Dec. 31, 2019. I want to match to TR Diamond but I’m afraid it will only give me until Jan 31, 2020. Do you think I should wait until late December to match? Maybe it will give me until 2021? I’m worried I did it too early.

Reply
Bill Shuman October 2, 2019 - 8:00 pm

Andrew, If I’m you I’m matching my TR whenever. Even if it only gives you till Jan. 2020 you will still be able to use that to match Wyndham during that month. However, if your at all worried, there is no harm in waiting. As mom always said, “Better to be safe than sorry!”

I honestly don’t know, but with the Caesars/Wyndham partnership open you only need one time to keep it active.

Sorry if a dumb question- I was thinking that since the Wyndham match to Bonvoy is only for one 90 day period- one time, that my chance to have diamond status was limited to one-time as well. (Since I don’t stay at Wyndham nor gamble enough to keep Diamond). Not the case?

Reply
Bill Shuman October 4, 2019 - 11:34 am

I have only matched my Marriott Platinum to Wyndham Diamond the one time, right before writing this article. Since then, I’ve retained my Wyndham Diamond status, with no stays, or rematch required thus far. If you are going the other way, from Wyndham Diamond to Marriott, then yes it’s only a one time 90 day window that requires 8 nights for gold, and 16 for platinum.

It’s 14 nights to maintain if you do a status match from another hotel chain – it’s 40 nights if you are just staying.
