The Top 10 Airlines In The World, According To TripAdvisor

by Miles Jackson

There are a few organizations out there that rank airlines based on consolidated feedback from customers. The most well-known one is Skytrax. However, TripAdvisor also plays the ranking game and recently came out with their own, a crowdsourced list from reviews from the past year.

Best Airline: Singapore

Singapore Airlines once again takes the number one spot in a recently released TripAdvisor poll of the top ten airlines in the world. This is the second consecutive year for the Asian-based carrier.

In fact, four carriers all hail from Asia — Eva Air, Japan Airlines and ANA (All Nippon Airways). Besides Tripadvisor’s poll, Singapore also won top honors in Skytrax’s 2018 World Airline Awards.

With flights to more than 60 destinations in 35 countries across six continents, Singapore Airlines offers many opportunities to try the product. It is a member of the Star Alliance. If you want to experience this top airline first hand, consider transferring points to Singapore’s KrisFlyer from the top credit programs like American Express Membership Rewards and Chase Ultimate Rewards. You can also use Juicy Miles, an award booking site that simplifies the process for you to make the most of your earned points.

Other big name airlines, including major carriers from North America and Europe, did not even make the top ten in the poll.

The List of Ten Airlines

Placing second, Qatar is one of two Middle East airlines that made the top ten. Emirates received fourth place. Eva Air, of Taiwan, claims the third spot on the list. I recently flew the Hello Kitty plane to Taipei and had a wonderful experience on my trip to Bali and Singapore.

North America only had one representative in the list — Southwest Airlines.

The poll also ranked the best air carriers in four separate categories.

Emirates took the top distinction for first class. Qatar Airways garnered the top slot for the business class category, Air New Zealand won for best premium economy and Singapore Airlines was named the best economy carrier.

North American Winners

Southwest Airlines was named best North American airline and is the only U.S. carrier to make the global poll’s top ten.

Within the North American categories specifically, Delta Air Lines grabbed the title of best “major” airline while WestJet captured Canada’s best airline recipient. Air Canada was judged to have the best overall business class in North America.

Regional Carriers Scored Well

Azul is a Brazilian airline offering most flights within their home country and in South America. They also have flights between Brazil and Paris, Porto and Lisbon in Europe. In the US, they serve Fort Lauderdale, Miami and Orlando.

Jet2.com, or more commonly referred to as Jet2, is the third largest scheduled air carrier in the UK. It operates on a mostly short-haul fleet of just under 90 (mostly B737) aircraft.

TripAdvisor Travelers’ Choice award winners are based on the “quality and quantity of flyer reviews” plus ratings for airlines published on the TripAdvisor’s website last year.

Would you go out of your way to book your next trip on one of these airlines?

Cindy-
I see you found Korean Air (unfortunately) on our other recent rankings of the 15 Worst Airlines. Sorry to disappoint you, but that was the findings of the company that conducted the poll (AirHelp.)
