United Details Routes for Massively Reduced Newark & LGA Schedule

On Sunday, United detailed huge flight reductions in the New York City area. This included both Newark (EWR) and LaGuardia (LGA) airports. At that time United shared that Newark was going from 139 daily flights to 15 daily flights (to 9 destinations). LaGuardia was dropping from 18 daily flights to 2 daily flights. Yes, a total of just 17 flights for all of New York City!

The update:

This morning, United shared an update on the specific routes – from Newark it will be hubs only + Frankfurt, London, and Tel Aviv. From LaGuardia it will be Chicago only.

Effective immediately, we have temporarily — but significantly — reduced our flying schedules to and from Newark and LaGuardia.

From Newark, we will offer approximately 15 total daily flights to our hubs and three international destinations – Frankfurt, London and Tel Aviv. From LaGuardia, we’ll offer two daily flights to Chicago. The reduction plan will be in effect for at least the next three weeks.

As we make these schedule reductions, we are mindful that United continues to provide an essential service during these challenging times.

It enables the shipment of much-needed medical supplies and will allow us to continue to bring health care professionals from around the country to the front lines of this crisis in New York and New Jersey. We’re working closely with the Mayor’s Fund to Advance New York City and a local network of medical volunteer organizations, including The Society of Critical Care Medicine, to coordinate free travel for doctors, nurses and other medical professionals from across the country to help treat patients.
