A passenger was tied up and gagged with duct tape by fellow passengers and crew members after downing a whole bottle of duty free vodka and spitting on the other passengers. In the end the passenger was astonishingly not even charged with disrupting Icelandair flight 615 from Reykjavik to JFK. This has to be one of my favorite unruly passenger stories from 2013 and it happened just 4 days in!
According to a Port Authority spokesman, an “apparently intoxicated” man who was acting “in a disorderly fashion” was restrained by passengers and crew members on an Icelandair flight from Reykjavik, Iceland to JFK on Thursday afternoon. Icelandic newspaper Morgunblai reports the passenger downed “a whole bottle” of duty free alcohol, and then went “subsequent crazy,” using threatening language and repeatedly spitting on people. Andy Ellwood, who snapped the below photo, has this account of the incident:Passenger drank all of his duty free liquor on the flight from Iceland to JFK yesterday. When he became unruly, (i.e. trying to choke the woman next to him and screaming the plane was going to crash), fellow passengers subdued him and tie him up for the rest of the flight. He was escorted off the flight by police when it landed. The Port Authority spokesman confirmed that the passenger, whose name has not been released, was transported to a local Queens hospital after the flight landed, but local authorities did not feel it warranted charges. They added that these types of incidents happen “once in a while, but not that often.”
Then of course there was the unruly passenger on US Airways flight 906 from Fort Lauderdale (FLL) to Charlotte (CLT), who was forcibly removed from the flight after refusing to comply with flight attendant instructions to power down her phone before takeoff. The pilot ordered her off the plane and that’s when the chaos ensued as the passenger refused to leave. She obviously doesn’t care about anyone else’s time…but don’t worry, she’s college educated! “I will hold up this whole **** plane, I don’t care where people gotta go.” She becomes even more irritated when other passengers and one of the flight attendants confirms to officers that she was in fact on her phone the whole time. Ridiculous video below, warning very explicit.
Finally, we have the woman who would not stop singing Whitney Houston’s I Will Always Love You, forcing an emergency landing and escort off the AA plane. From the Daily Mail:
An American Airlines pilot was forced to make an emergency landing after a passenger refused to stop singing Whitney Houston’s hit song I Will Always Love You. The solo performance began shortly into the flight from Los Angeles to New York and her crooning quickly became too much for passengers and staff on the domestic flight last Thursday. The pilot was forced to change course halfway through the six hour flight and make an unscheduled stop at Kansas City so officers could escort the woman from the plane.
There were quite a few uplifting stories about the airlines and their passengers as well. Check out this list from ABC News
