Ryanair – “Actually, Never Mind those £10 Transatlantic Flights”

That was a quick reversal…or maybe just a smart PR move. Ryanair made headlines this week when its board approved plans for transatlantic flights (see –Ryanair is Coming to America – Plans to Offer Transatlantic Flights), with fares set to start as low as £10. Well, a statement on Thursday directly from the company seems to make it clear that the board’s approval does’t actually mean much in terms of future planning.

In the light of recent press coverage, the Board of Ryanair Holdings Plc wishes to clarify that it has not considered or approved any transatlantic project and does not intend to do so.

Huh? Perhaps the board’s approval was the first step in a 5+ year plan or maybe it wasn’t supposed to be leaked to the press? In any case, the board actually did approve the plan so we might see Ryanair at a US airport in the future…just not anytime soon.
