Successful Repair for EgyptAir MS804 Flight Data Recorder Confirms Smoke

One down, one to go. Egyptian investigators shared news yesterday that EgyptAir MS804’s flight data recorder has been successfully repaired. The data files were sent back to Egypt on Tuesday for analysis.

“The data file was transferred to Cairo today for decoding, validating and studying of data at the laboratories of the central department for aircraft accidents at the Ministry of Civil Aviation,” Egypt’s Aircraft Accident Investigation committee said in a statement.

Last week, both of the damaged flight recorders were sent to France for repairs. French BEA accident experts worked to remove salt deposits from the memory chips which contain the vital voice and flight data.

The clean-up process for the voice recorder began on Tuesday.

UPDATE: Officials are saying that initial data retrieved from the cleaned memory chip indicates smoke was detected on board.
