Wow, in all my travels this was somehow my first Skycap experience. I arrived at LaGuardia (LGA) at 6:35 am this morning for my 8am flight to Kansas City (MCI). I had a bag to check and the dedicated Sky Priority check-in area was a disaster. The line flowed outside the dedicated posts, down to the main check-in area, and then out towards the entrance doors (see the pic below). The regular line was a bit longer and the baggage drop area was at least a 30 minute wait as well. Granted, New Year’s Day was yesterday and there’s a major winter storm approaching the New York city area.
I decided to go back outside and wait in the relatively short (under 5 minute) line for Skycap service. It was excellent, there were five Skycaps all working at the same time and all happy to assist. There’s no charge for Delta Skycap service but I was more than happy to give a generous gratuity. Surprisingly the Sky Priority security line wasn’t all that horrible and TSA Pre✓ made it even better.
I’m also thankful I escaped New York before the storm. Granted, this is a work trip so it wasn’t like my last minute escape from the Blizzard to Barbados last year using Avios miles, but I am grateful that we got out. Total delay was about 1 hour and 20 minutes for de-icing and air traffic control…interestingly enough Delta had their own de-icing area at LGA.
PS – Delta’s LGA terminals continue to improve …
Terminal C / D connector…
Newly opened wibar
Gate area iPad bar
Balmy temperatures in Kansas…but no snow (today anyway).

When you use the Delta Skycaps, do they tag your bags with the “SkyPriority” tags or is that only in the terminal?
@Brendan – Yep full SkyPriority tags!
Experience says you better tip very generous otherwise chances your bags won’t make it are very high.
