Update: Hazing Ritual Forces Flight Attendants into Overhead Bins

by Adam

This morning, Kunming Airlines announced that they will be taking “targeted vigilance to ensure these type of incidents are not repeated”…whatever that means since it was their own security officers who were involved! If you missed the news that was making headlines in China all weekend, it was discovered that Kunming Airlines has had an unofficial initiation ritual (for at least the last five years) which placed new flight attendants into overhead bins. Only female flight attendants were pressured into taking part in the practice, being referred to arrogant, uncooperative, or rude if they did not participate.

This is the second statement by the airline on the incident. On Monday they said the following:

The behavior of our crew members at no time affected the safe operation of passenger flight services. The airline was unaware of the tradition and the personal behavior of the attendants and security operators after hours. Training will take part to prevent the recurrence of such incidents.
