Norwegian Air announced this morning that they’ve placed the largest single order ever for B787 Dreamliners by a European airline. The order was for 19 787s for delivery between 2017-2020 with options for an additional 10. Norwegian plans to add additional long-haul flights to the US.
Norwegian Air currently offers flights from New York JFK, Fort Lauderdale, Orlando, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, and Oakland to Europe via Oslo, Stockholm, Copenhagen, and London-Gatwick. No official word on new potential North American destinations. Back in July, Norwegian announced that they would be operating flights from multiple US cities to the Caribbean (Martinique and Guadeloupe). The Open Skies agreement between the US and EU allows the carrier to fly directly from the US to the cities as they are considered French territories. The carrier will fly from JFK 3x per week and Baltimore & Boston 2x per week starting in December.
Besides the Dreamliners, Norwegian has 100 Boeing 737 MAXs and 100 Airbus A320neos on order.
