Earlier today, we wrote about an offer from Wyndham Resorts, whereby they would quadruple your SPG points balance and match your status, if you transfer all SPG points to charity. It appears that Wyndham has now pulled the offer, before it’s even set to begin. A visit to the offer page shows a statement instead:
Today’s Wyndham Rewards trade up was offered in the spirit of generosity. Before the offer even began, there were obvious and significant examples of fraud. Much to our dismay and disappointment, we have to cancel this promotion. We will, however, make a donation of 5 million Wyndham Rewards points to charity as the work they do on behalf of others is real magic.
I have no doubt that some people are looking to take advantage of this promotion without following the rules, and I don’t blame them for pulling the offer on accounts of that. In lieu of the offer, they are donating 5 million Wyndham points to charity.
The original terms and conditions did say that only transactions that take place during the offer window (noon to 11:59 pm EST) will count, which I noted in my earlier post, so Wyndham is technically off the hook. Hopefully no one already donated their SPG points in hopes of taking this offer. Still, I can’t imagine how they didn’t foresee that there will be a possibility of fraud…
