New Centurion Lounge Reportedly Planned for Los Angeles (LAX)

American Express has been on a roll with new Centurion Lounges, and has just announced its 11th location, Denver, a few days ago. But it would appear that they are not stopping any time soon. According to Brian Sumers, a reported for Skift, American Express is in talks with Los Angeles World Airports, presumably for a new Centurion Lounge in Los Angeles (LAX).

This won’t be the first time we are hearing about a proposed Centurion Lounge in Los Angeles. Back in 2015, Brian Sumers wrote about the rumored lounge that was mentioned in an airport employee newsletter. American Express has also dipped their toes in the water with the opening of a pop-up lounge in LAX a year or so ago. However, this seems to be the most solid evidence we have seen so far.

Of course, this lounge won’t come cheap, with the reported agreement indicating the rent would be $33.4 million over a 10-year lease.

A Centurion Lounge in Los Angeles will be a great addition to the Centurion lounge network. LAX is the second busiest airport in the US by passenger boardings, just after Atlanta (ATL). With new plans for LAX, like a new landside people mover and corridors that connect terminals airside, the new lounge is definitely arriving at an opportune time.

American Express currently operates Centurion Lounges in nine locations:

  • Dallas/Ft. Worth (DFW)
  • Hong Kong (HKG)
  • Houston-George Bush (IAH)
  • Las Vegas (LAS)
  • Miami (MIA)
  • New York-LaGuardia (LGA)
  • Philadelphia (PHL)
  • San Francisco (SFO)
  • Seattle (SEA)

They have also officially announced new lounge locations in New York-JFK and Denver (DEN), both slated for opening in 2019.

American Express Centurion Lounges are accessible to cardmembers of the AMEX Platinum Card, AMEX Business Platinum Card, and the AMEX Centurion Card. Cardmembers can bring two guests or immediate family members, with the option to purchase day passes for additional guests at $50 a pop.
