Like everyone else, I’ve been glued to the web and cable news following the latest MH 370 developments. NBC News is now reporting that the “abrupt U-turn was programmed into the Flight Management System well before the co-pilot calmly signed off with air traffic controllers.” As per NBC News, the change in direction was made at least 12 minutes before co-pilot Fariq Abdul Hamid said “All right, good night,” to controllers on the ground. This would also be before the last automated ACARS burst at 1:07am. This of course means the route change also occurred after the transponders were turned off.
