Abandoned B747s Mystery @ Kuala Lumpur Solved…sort of

by Adam

Well, someone still reads the newspaper! Last week, Kuala Lumpur International Airport placed advertisements in local newspapers regarding three 747-200s it claimed were left abandoned at the airport for over a year.

The ads gave the owners 14 days to claim the jets or the airport threatened to sell them. Well, last Friday Swift Air Cargo came forward to declare that they are the rightful owners of the planes. Interestingly enough, they claim that they’ve been in contact with the airport as recently as October of this year.

The carrier says it “is understandably very concerned when MAHB declares to the world that ‘exhaustive steps’ were taken to find a contact person, yet Swift has been meeting with MAHB on a consistent basis.” You can read their full press release here.
